Hold Tight: A New President Takes Us on an Exhilarating, Overdue Modern Political Theory Ride

First a quickie crash course in three-letter initials that describe monetary theories, and then a stark bulletin:

Modern Monetary Theory, or MMT, holds that the government, with a monopoly on printing money, can spend money without limit. This control of the press means it does not need to rely solely on taxing or borrowing. It can be spent lavishly and in perpetuity without repenting.

We saw during COVID this spending debacle that, today, manifests serious consequences and can ruin a nation’s economy. The direct result is massive inflation.

ne doesn’t need an economics degree from the University of Chicago to figure this one out. Plain and simple common sense will do. MMT is yet another example of the “experts” being so good at what they do.

We change a word (and a letter) and introduce Modern Political Theory (MPT), remotely akin to MMT but not so ill-conceived.

MPT maintains that political capital can be endless in the right hands as an administration or leader lives up to stated goals and aggressively pursues them without apology or reservation, as long as these are executed within the proper bounds of the law.

Newton’s First Law tells us that what is in motion tends to stay in motion. As business owners, real estate professionals, and entrepreneurs know, activity begets activity.

In his first few weeks in office, President Trump is providing us with such a showcase. As he sets out to accomplish exactly what he said he would do, his political capital is not depleted but replenished repeatedly.

In terms most kindergartners might get: Our well fills quicker than the pump pumps.  And the quicker the pump is pumping the more water is replacing that which is being pumped.

It is an amazing phenomenon to witness.

Past leaders have been slow to spend their political capital, as it was deemed a finite asset that was long and hard-earned.

Trump, however, is spending his capital at a seemingly alarming rate only to discover it is not an expense but a high-yield investment with immediate returns. This is both delightful and predictable.

As he sets out on a multifold agenda, the President contrasts his leadership with that of his predecessor in stark relief. The majority of Americans like it and recognize we could use it in spades.

The more corruption, abuse of power, toxic policies, and malfeasance from the last four years are revealed, the more energy and support the newcomer garners.

Those who would thwart these efforts are relatives of Thor, who sent a lightning bolt through Iron Man to stop Iron Man in his tracks. Unintended consequence: The lightning recharged and surged Iron Man’s powers. Those attacking our President in his efforts to clean up only provide more energy and conviction to the new administration.

The keys to Trump’s success are staying in motion—spending political capital—and leaving no time for his adversaries to regroup and cause friction.

Using his adversaries’ energy to refuel him daily, rewarding them with the time they deserve—none—and unapologetically executing his plan ensures supporters more than replenish any political expenses.

The time for conservative spending of political capital is over.

A new theory is in town. In reality, modern political theory is not new; it is a time-tested axiom that has worked since humans populated the earth.

Do what is right. Do what you say you will do. Expose corruption. Root-out evil. Stop fraud and abuse. Work within the law. Serve the people.

If a leader does this and more, political capital never ends, and MPT stops being a theory and becomes a reality. The President has his chance right here, right now, to take advantage of this time-tested truth to the benefit of not just the American people but the world.
